During the summer, they move their camps higher in the mountains and we will have to ride horses to join them and spend some time in their camp. And during the winter, they go down near the village and lake of Tsagaanuur.

In partnership with the NGO EEJII, we have created a new project that combines tour and volunteering activities. You’ll experience the nomadic culture and way of living and take part in meaningful local projects. With our Amarbayasgalant Monastery tour, you will have the opportunity to spend a few days in the monastery, living alongside the monks, learning their way of living, the Buddhist philosophy, and teaching English to the younger monks. Amarbayasgalant Monastery is one of the largest of Mongolia. At the moment 30 monks live in the Monastery, with almost half of them between 7 and 13 years old, who have for a great part been picked up from orphanages. The difficulty to find teachers for the monastery makes our volunteering activities and your contribution very important.

Different options are possible to spend the nights, many tourist ger camps on the way offer a very good comfort, good meals, hot showers. The Amarbayasgalant Monastery is the second largest monastery in Mongolia and is one of the few monasteries in Mongolia that has remained intact despite religious purges during the 1930s. The beauty, decorations, and construction of the monastery have made it one of the most magnificent architectural monuments in Mongolia. With our 11 days program, embark with us on a peaceful and relaxing meditating journey in a 300 years old Buddhist Monastery. On the last day of the tour, you will witness the sacred Tsam Mask Dance being organized every year by the monks of Amarbayasgalant. This is a truly unique experience that very few had the chance to take part in. Each year in March, residents of Mongolia’s Khövsgöl Lake area celebrate the Khövsgöl Ice Festival with horse-drawn sleighs, elaborate ice sculptures, traditional food and vibrant competitions including ice skating, ice sumo wrestling, tug of war, ice ger building and dog sledding – all on the dark blue ice of the frozen lake. During the Festival, the lake after becomes a frozen playground for locals and visitors alike. For the occasion, participants dress up in their own colourful, traditional costumes that represent the country’s different regions where they hail from. Here you can witness the traditions and lifestyles of Mongolian reindeer herders who descend to the lake from their taiga homeland, while local shamans perform their rituals with a fire-burning ceremony.
