Bayan-Ulgii is the highest and most western of Mongolia’s aimags (provinces). It is home to the Altai Mountains on the Mongolia-Russia border. About 10 percent of the territory is covered by forests, including the Siverian Larch Province. Khovd is distinguished by its multi-cultural population. It is home to more than 17 unique nationalities and ethnicities. Each of these groups has its own distinct traditional dwelling, settlement pattern, dress, and cultural history (literature, art, and musical traditions).
We will leave Ulaanbaatar at 9:00 am and drive to Darkhan, the capital city of the Darkhan Uul province.
We will stop briefly in Darkhan to eat lunch and visit some local attractions. From Darkhan we will drive west to reach the Iven Valley and the Amarbaysgalant Monastery by the afternoon. We will visit the Amarbaysgalant Monastery and eat dinner.
We will spend a night in the ger camp of a local family. Lunch and dinner.
