Altai Tavan Bogd National Park covers 6,362 km2 of the Bayan-Ulgii province just south of Tavan Bogd, the highest mountain in Mongolia. The park is home to three large freshwater lakes, several waterfalls, and 34 glaciers. The largest glacier, Potanin, covers more than 20 km2.
Tavan Bogd Mountain is considered sacred to local Kazakhs, Tuvans, and Mongolians. Even today, these tribes use the region for religious ceremonies. With tens of thousands of petroglyphs and ancient artifacts covering the mountain, the world has declared this national park a World Heritage site.

One of our representatives will pick you up from the airport and drop you off at a hotel in the center of Ulaanbaatar. After checking-in, you will have time to rest and explore the city.

In the morning, you will be taken to the airport to fly to Ulgii (the capital of the Bayan-Ulgii province). Upon arrival, your guide and driver will take you on a short tour of the city. Then we will drive to Shiveet Khairkhan Mountain in the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Shiveet Khairkhan is a sacred mountain of the Tuva people.

After breakfast we will ride horseback towards the White River Valley, home to Mongolia’s biggest glacier–Potanin. As we ride, we will be able to admire the magnificent Altai Range, including Tavan Bogd Mountain, the highest peak of the country. In the evening, we will travel back to stay with our host family.

Today we will ride horseback to the base of Shiveet Khairkhan Mountain, a holy place of the Tuvan people. We will have the chance to explore the area and climb to the peak. Shiveet Khairkhan is famous for its rich wildlife, specifically Siberian ibex and Argali sheep.

After breakfast, we will ride horseback to locally named Khar Salaa, a tributary to Tsagaan Gol. Khar Salaa is famous for its amazing collection of ancient petroglyphs.

After breakfast we will leave the majestic mountain area and drive back towards Ulgii. We will stop on the way and stay with a Kazakh eagle hunter’s family in Ulaan-Khus. While with them, you will learn how to train and hunt with eagles.

From Ulaan-Khus we will drive back to Ulgii, where you will be taken to a local hotel for the night.

We will leave Ulaanbaatar at 9:00 am and drive to Darkhan, the capital city of the Darkhan Uul province.
We will stop briefly in Darkhan to eat lunch and visit some local attractions. From Darkhan we will drive west to reach the Iven Valley and the Amarbaysgalant Monastery by the afternoon. We will visit the Amarbaysgalant Monastery and eat dinner.
We will spend a night in the ger camp of a local family. Lunch and dinner.
After breakfast you will have time to enjoy the city until you are taken to the airport for your return flight.
