On this homestay tour, we will have the opportunity to stay with a nomadic family. We will learn about nomadic life through hands-on experiences: herding animals (horses, cows, goats or sheep), cooking traditional meals, and fetching water. The host family is located in the same city as the Amarbayasgalant Monastery. This monastery is home to more than 40 monks, some of them just 8 years old.
Host Family: A local family has been kind enough to host the trip. The head of the household is Otgonbat. His summer ger camp is located in front of the Amarbayasgalant Monastery just off the banks of the Even River. He has two traditional Mongolian gers–one for his family and one for guests. He has a beautiful wife and two children who you will grow to love as we stay with them.
We will leave Ulaanbaatar at 9:00 am and drive to Darkhan, the capital city of the Darkhan Uul province.
We will stop briefly in Darkhan to eat lunch and visit some local attractions. From Darkhan we will drive west to reach the Iven Valley and the Amarbaysgalant Monastery by the afternoon. We will visit the Amarbaysgalant Monastery and eat dinner.
We will spend a night in the ger camp of a local family. Lunch and dinner.
